About the Work

The Königsberg tankard with lid is a silver-gilt vessel featuring a cylindrical body with a strong volute handle on a profiled base. It is adorned with 24 Braunschweig-Lüneburg Reichstaler coins dated 1690–1697, while the lid and base contain Saxon thalers with the bust of Elector Johann Georg I, dated 1620 and 1624. An engraving under the base ring indicates the weight as “Wigt 90 lott.” A baptismal jug by the same master is referenced in Czihak’s Die Edelschmiedekunst früherer Zeiten in Preußen (1903), associated with the Sackheim church.
