About the Work

2 Silver, partially gilded Renaissance beakers in trumpet shape

Southern Germany, most probably the Nuremberg area 1500-1520

Larger Beaker

This elegant beaker features smooth, refined walls and a gracefully flared rim, accentuated by rich gilding. The rim is further adorned with an intricately engraved band of delicate foliage and floral motifs, adding a touch of timeless sophistication.

Smaller Beaker

Engraved with remarkable detail, this beaker bears inscriptions marking the child's birthdate (above the cross) and the names of the godparents (below). Traditionally, such a cup was presented to a newborn boy at birth. The base features a coin or monogram, dated both inside and underneath, while an additional inscription beneath the crucifix details the bride’s parents.
