About the Work

Painted on an arched oak panel, this painting shows the Holy Family accompanied by St. Catherine and St. Ursula in a crystalline hilly landscape.

The centre of the composition is occupied by the Virgin Mary who is holding the Infant Jesus against her breast. She is sitting on a brick container filled with plants whose vertical branches give the impression that the Virgin is sitting on a sort of natural sofa. To the right of the Virgin is her husband Joseph, who is leaning on the container.
