About the Work

This type of ritual vessel is characteristic of the northern and western regions of Iran, from the Caspian Sea to Elam. It appears to have served as a prototype for libation vessels crafted by potters.


Very few comparable examples are known, one of which belongs to the Barbier-Mueller Collection in Geneva (Inv. 241-60).
