About the Work

Patek Philippe Pendant Watch with Enamel Portrait of Saint Fabiola. Made in 1889 for Bunde & Upmeyer Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin Sold September 26, 1893. A rare and exquisite example of 19th-century craftsmanship, this Patek Philippe pendant watch is an exceptional mix of haute horology and fine artistry. Cased in 18K yellow gold and delicately adorned with pearls, the timepiece features a remarkable painted enamel portrait of Saint Fabiola, inspired by the celebrated work of Jean-Jacques Henner. The finely executed miniature enamel painting pays homage to the revered early Christian saint, known for her piety and charitable works, while also reflecting the enduring artistic influence of Henner’s original composition.

The watch is powered by a keyless movement, a technical innovation of its time, and exemplifies Patek Philippe’s dedication to both precision and elegance. Commissioned by Bunde & Upmeyer Co. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and sold in 1893, this timepiece is accompanied by an Extract from the Archives, original correspondence from Patek Philippe, and historical documentation on Saint Fabiola and Henner’s iconic portrait.

A true collector’s piece, this pendant watch stands as a testament to Patek Philippe’s mastery of both horology and decorative arts, making it a prized addition to any distinguished collection.
