About the Work

This clip from 1964 presents a naturalist take on the flower, which has been represented as faithfully as possible. Its delicate petals are meticulously superimposed and seem to float in a gentle breeze. Alongside the three-dimensional volume provided by this juxtaposition, the individual shaping of each element endows the ensemble with a highly realistic sense of movement and vitality.

While this treatment is in keeping with the Maison's creative heritage, the associations of materials are typical of the style of the decade. The white gold or platinum traditionally favored for setting diamonds have been replaced by the more luminous tones of yellow gold. This chromatic choice is highlighted by the seven emeralds that evoke the stamens of the flower.
