About the Work

Stuart Lochhead Sculpture is pleased to present a newly discovered, exquisitely executed cast of the 'Crucified Christ' with four nails. The model was executed by Michelangelo in Rome in the late sixteenth century and discussed in Francisco Pacheco's treatise 'On the Art of Painting' (1649). The present cast is one of the finest surviving bronzes of the same composition, other versions of which are housed in important churches and public collections in Spain, as well as in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
