About the Work

Jean-Michel Frank met young Alberto Giacometti in the early 1930’s and quickly recognizing his immense talent commissioned a series of, entirely new for the period, lighting and decorative object that Frank would place in his minimalist interiors. Sometimes plaster and often bronze, these discreet pieces with pure lines were inspired by Ancient Greece and reinterpreted for the modern age. Their utilitarian function of lighting was made second to their understated sculptural aspect.
