About the Work

Rare pair of pocket globes signed Newtons in their blackened wooden cases with godron decoration. Each globe has a brass meridian graduated in degrees and an hour scale at the top.


The globe cartouche reads: ‘NEWTON'S New & Improved TERRESTRIAL GLOBE Published Newton & Son 66, Chancery Lane LONDON’.


The celestial globe cartouche: ‘NEWTONS Improved Pocket Celestial GLOBE’.


The globes are presented in their original wooden cases with their equatorial table inside and the representation of the signs of the Zodiac and the major stars.


The cases are hinged and have a brass closing hook.


Dimensions: diameters of 7,6 cm (globes) and 10 cm (cases).
