About the Work

This creation also belongs to Hu's Dance of Butterfly Collection, which pays homage to the Chinese 24-Solar-Term tradition. This Midsummer Dream Butterfly Brooch represents the Summer Solstice, which marks the day when the sun stands almost directly over the Tropic of Cancer, bringing the Northern Hemisphere its longest daylight. This peak in light and warmth signifies the epitome of summer, as energy and vitality reach their zenith. As Chen Xiling (陳希齡)describes in Ke Zun Xian Du(恪遵憲度): “Sun at Zenith, Shadows Fade, Summer Awakens.” During this time, nature flourishes in balanced harmony, as ample sunlight and rainfall fuel vibrant growth. Ancient cultures celebrated the Summer Solstice as the Summer Festival, a family gathering honoring ancestors and expressing gratitude for nature’s abundance. With rituals for good weather, bountiful harvests, and family harmony, this season reflects a heartfelt wish for prosperity, health, and joy in life’s simplest blessings.

Anna captures the Summer Solstice with a soft palette of pastel blues, purples, and greens, evoking blooming lotus, lush midsummer greenery, and rainbows appearing after summer storms. At its center is a dazzling 7.26 carats chrysoberyl, set on a feather-light titanium ribbon adorned with yellow diamonds and rare canary tourmaline. Inspired by the enchanting forest of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this Midsummer Dream Butterfly Broochradiates romantic elegance and magic.
