About the Work

Having the work of a Master in your collection is not necessarily a matter of price nor medium. To Morandi, in fact, etching was a work of art itself. The study to choose what subject to engrave was the same as the one for his paintings so much so that he asked the Fine Arts Academy in Bologna to open for him the chair of etching of which he would be a professor his entire life.

"There is nothing more abstract than reality" Morandi used to say. So he would choose subjects like everyday objects or landscapes to have an excuse to create a balance of light, shapes and colors in the composition. In his etchings the abstraction is evident in the light. Furthermore, his landscapes are always abstract: no human presence, no changing seasons, just an excuse for a subject to give life to lights and colors.
