About the Work

Paolini uses the naturalistic device popularized by Ribera and Manfredi of depicting intellectuals, philosophers and poets using vagabonds and people of low social status as models, sometimes taking this type of representation to the grotesque. Very impressive and naturalistic, almost photographic image, somehow very modern and attractive to the nowadays eye.

Literature

It has been recently inspected by Nikita de Vernejoul -author of the catalogue raisonée- who has fully endorsed the attribution.
