About the Work

A wide articulated bracelet, meticulously crafted in titanium, designed as a series of openwork panels of geometric design, each slightly different composition formed by arrangements of custom-cut baguette diamonds. These panels serve as the backdrop to a sublime suite of rare and historic spinels of different sizes, all astonishingly slender, nine of octagonal cut with a kite-shaped spinel set into the clasp, all framed in yellow gold. Audaciously, this important collection of ten 19th century spinels, of Afghan (Tajikistan) origin, and superlative colour, has been kept intact, just as the original cuts and shapes of the stones have been carefully preserved, their antiquity both contrasting and harmonising with the contemporary design of the bracelet.

The intricate construction, which took some three years to complete, was highly complex: the baguette diamonds were specially cut to fit and form the graphic patterns, and the edges of each panel set with inverted diamonds, perfectly aligned when the panels are closed, revealing the ultimate refinement of this exquisite detail, as they open and move with supreme flexibility.
