About the Work

This drawing by Jacques Dumont, known as "Le Romain" (1701-1781), is based on Giovanni Paolo Panini's renowned painting at the Louvre and, more specifically, the 1731 version from the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin, once in Cardinal de Polignac's collection. Created as a tribute to the grand fireworks display held in Rome's Piazza Navona for the birth of Louis XV's son, this work encapsulates the grandeur and political significance of the event through Dumont’s precise and animated Baroque style.
