About the Work

Our sculpture represents a kore, a term meaning "young girl" in Greek. Originating from the Archaic period (7th to 5th century BC), korai were typically used as votive offerings or grave markers, characterized by their standing pose, close-set legs, and draped garments. Our piece exemplifies the enduring influence of this style, blending Archaic elements with Roman artistry from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD.

The figure’s highly stylized appearance, with a nearly concealed body beneath intricate drapery, reflects both the classical traditions and the evolving aesthetics of the time.
