A self-taught art enthusiast, Mathias Ary Jan founded his first gallery in 1997. Now based at 32 avenue Marceau in Paris, it exhibits works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Among the many artistic trends that developed during this pivotal period in the history of art, Mathias Ary Jan specialises in Orientalism and the Belle Époque. He also stands out for his selection of Symbolist and Post-Impressionist works.
As part of his ongoing support for museums, Mathias Ary Jan regularly lends works to exhibitions in France and abroad, including the Musée de Versailles, the Qatar Lusail Museum, the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Institut du Monde Arabe in 2024 alone. This year he also sold two works to the Musée d'Orsay, after donating a major painting to the Paris 1874 Inventing Impressionism exhibition last year.
In 2022, he published the reference book 'Oriental Dreams', retracing the initiatory journey of European artists who helped the Orientalist movement to take off.
